What is Holiday Chocolate?

by Andy Ciordia

When you close your eyes and let your taste buds and memories swim around, what gets conjured when you think of holiday chocolate?

In the northern hemisphere it has become much cooler and with the stack of holiday’s around the corner we’re getting pretty festive around here. One question that we really wanted to research was what taste evocations does the holiday season mean to you?

Cool Mints, Alpine Peaks

Is it the peppermint fantasia’s, something I used to get as a child at a local cafe. A hot chocolate with heavy cream, peppermint, whipped cream, and minty sprinkles?

Stars Abound

What about chocolate with star anise, anise, or liquorish? Depending on the detail and sharpness of the flavor these spices have a root in many cultures of winter-time.

Cinnamon and Sugar..

Cinnamon speaks volumes of warmth and fires. Does it to you? I love the aromatics and with consistent experimentation we have packed some chocolate truffles with deep luscious cinnamon swirls.

Holiday Spice, and Everything Nice!

We also did a lot of digging for the infamous pumpkin pie spice mix and found it to all orbit around around nutmeg, cinnamon, brown sugar, clove, nuts, all-spice, and many tasty variations.

It takes elements of many familiarities and pulls them all together. Well worth playing around with for cakes, breads, lattes, homemade chocolates, etc.

And You?

What holiday flavors do you recall growing up? What desserts or the items behind desserts make you dreamy? Tell us something from the home, something from your culture.
